Omaha Gives to the Zoo
The fourth annual Omaha Gives! is coming up on May 25, and the Omaha Zoo Foundation is a proud participant.
“Omaha Gives! is such a unique and fun way for people and businesses to come together to support our city’s nonprofits,” says Tina Cherica, executive director of the Omaha Zoo Foundation, of the citywide 24-hour event.
Cherica says the Omaha Zoo Foundation has been a participant in Omaha Gives! for the entire four years of the program’s existence, and last year raised more than $13,000, thanks to a combination of online donations from the public, and bonus dollars and prizes made possible by generous sponsors including American National Bank, Omaha Steaks, CQuence, Mutual of Omaha, and TD Ameritrade, as well as many nonprofit foundations. “Thanks to the sponsors, every dollar donated has the potential to go so much further,” says Cherica.
Between midnight and 11:59 p.m. on the 25th, Omaha Gives! will award a certain dollar amount every hour to one of the organizations that received a donation from the public during that hour. Throughout the course of the day, there will also be bonuses for organizations that are attracting the most donations, which means even small gifts can reap exponential rewards.
Monies donated to the Omaha Zoo Foundation during Omaha Gives! will go towards supporting Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and its mission of educating the public and preserving earth’s priceless biodiversity.
“There are so many wonderful organizations involved in Omaha Gives! and we wish them all a successful day of fundraising,” Cherica says. “We also hope that people will consider the Omaha Zoo Foundation when they are choosing which nonprofits they would like to support this year.”
