Omaha Gives! - A Chance to Give Back
Have you been thinking you’d like to increase your support of Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, but it just keeps falling off the to-do list? Well, May 24th is your lucky day!
Once again, the Omaha Zoo Foundation will be participating in Omaha Gives!, the 24-hour, citywide event that provides a fun, interactive way for people in our community to support the organizations that matter most to them.
Throughout the day, the Omaha Community Foundation will award financial prizes every hour to the organization that earned the most Omaha Gives! donations during that hour. There will also be bonus prizes for organizations that are attracting the most donations – so even a small donation has the potential to make a huge impact.
“A lot of times, people will come to us and say they are patrons, or Zoo Mamas or Daddys, but they still want to be more involved,” says Tina Cherica, executive director of the Omaha Zoo Foundation. “By participating in Omaha Gives!, they have the opportunity to make their gift go a lot further.”
Cherica says that the Omaha Zoo Foundation raised more than $13,000 last year, thanks to a combination of online donations from the public, and bonus dollars and prizes made possible by generous sponsors including American National Bank, Omaha Steaks, Mutual of Omaha, and TD Ameritrade and other organizations.
Omaha Gives! is also a great way for those who have never given to the zoo to show their support for our mission of educating the public and preserving earth’s priceless biodiversity.
“Omaha Gives! is such a unique way to get involved with, and learn about, new nonprofits,” says Cherica. “We hope that our patrons and other generous donors will spread the word about the Omaha Zoo Foundation to their friends and family who are looking for worthy organizations to support.”
